Job Title: Assistant Teacher, Maker’s Clubhouse Early Learning Center

Classification: Full-Time, 35 Hours Per Week

Reports To: Early Learning Center Director

Starting Salary Range: $16.00 -$17.50 per hour

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or ability to obtain the above credentials is required.
  • Previous experience working with young children preferred.
  • Must meet all applicable state licensing and background clearance requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patient, compassionate, and responsive and flexible and creative in responding to the needs of children and the classroom environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with children, families, coworkers, and community partners.
  • Experience with Brightwheel is a plus.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Classroom Instruction & Curriculum

  • Collaborate with lead teachers and other classroom staff to implement an age-appropriate curriculum.
  • Prepare for daily lessons by gathering materials, organizing resources, and setting up learning activities.
  • Lead and assist children in activities that promote academic, social, emotional, spiritual, and physical development.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate manners, classroom expectations, and positive social behaviors.
  • Create an engaging classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, exploration, and a love for learning.
  • Maintain active supervision of children at all times.
  • Follow and enforce school-wide health and safety procedures.
  • Respond appropriately to children's individual needs, behaviors, and emotions.
  • Support communication with parents and families regarding children's daily experiences, development, and learning.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and Center operations.
  • Ensure classroom spaces and learning materials are clean, sanitized, organized, and orderly.
  • Assist with classroom preparation and closing procedures.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with teachers, administrators, families, and other staff.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, training, and other required activities.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance consistent with the standards and mission of Bible Center Church and The Maker’s Clubhouse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Early Learning Center Director.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Assistant Early Learning Center Teacher works in an active early childhood classroom environment and must be able to safely perform the physical demands associated with caring for young children.

The position requires the ability to:

  • Walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Bend, kneel, squat, and move frequently throughout the classroom.
  • Participate in children's activities and play.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of children throughout the day.
  • Lift and carry materials and supplies.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to the physical and safety needs of children.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Bible Center Church, located in the Homewood Community of Pittsburgh, is a multigenerational, urban teaching ministry whose vision is to make earth more like heaven—creating a place where people can grow, serve, and make a meaningful difference in the community.

The Maker’s Clubhouse Out of School Time Program is a child-centered ministry of The Oasis Project (TOP), the community outreach and economic development division of Bible Center Church. The program is designed to change the trajectory of young people’s lives through engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Mathematics)-focused educational programming and social-emotional learning.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The After School Crew Leader is responsible for helping create a safe, nurturing, engaging, and educational environment where school-aged youth can learn, grow, build positive relationships, and develop the skills needed for future success. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with children and youth, enjoys mentoring and facilitating activities, and is committed to helping young people discover their strengths and potential. The After School Crew Leader will work collaboratively with the Program Director, fellow staff members, parents, schools, and community partners to provide a high-quality out-of-school time experience.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will:

·      Demonstrate a strong commitment to providing high-quality out-of-school time programming.

·      Possess the ability, desire, and passion to engage, mentor, and build meaningful relationships with school-aged youth.

·      Demonstrate patience, enthusiasm, creativity, and a positive attitude when working with children.

·      Have the ability to use positive behavior support and behavior modification techniques appropriately and consistently.

·      Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills.

·      Be dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

·      Have access to reliable transportation.

·      Be able to obtain and maintain all required clearances and certifications, including:

o  Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance

o  Pennsylvania Criminal Background Check

o  FBI Fingerprint/Background Check

o  National Sex Offender Registry Check

o  Mandated Reporter Training Certification

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Youth Engagement & Relationship Building

·      Build positive, trusting relationships with children and youth.

·      Create an environment where children feel safe, respected, valued, and encouraged to participate.

·      Actively engage youth in educational, recreational, creative, and enrichment activities.

·      Serve as a positive role model and mentor for participating youth.

·      Encourage teamwork, problem-solving, creativity, leadership, and positive social interaction.

·      Review, understand, and implement assigned lesson plans and activities.

·      Facilitate activities designed to strengthen problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and other higher-level thinking skills.

·      Support STEAM-focused learning experiences and social-emotional learning activities.

·      Adapt activities, when appropriate, to meet the developmental and individual needs of participating youth.

·      Encourage curiosity, exploration, and a love of learning.

·      Maintain a safe, clean, welcoming, and supportive environment for all students.

·      Provide appropriate supervision of children at all times.

·      Implement program policies, procedures, and safety protocols consistently.

·      Utilize positive behavior support strategies to promote appropriate conduct.

·      Follow all mandated reporting requirements and organizational policies related to child safety and protection.

·      Maintain positive working relationships with program staff, school personnel, community partners, and other stakeholders.

·      Share relevant information regarding student participation, behavior, accomplishments, and concerns with the Program Director.

·      Participate in staff meetings, program activities, and other required program functions.

 

WORK SCHEDULE & PROGRAM HOURS

The Maker’s Clubhouse Out of School Time Program operates throughout the school year and summer.

·      3:00p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

·      Locations include Faison Elementary School and Lincoln Elementary School

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

The After School Crew Leader works in an active educational and youth development environment. The position requires the ability to:

·      Stand and walk for extended periods.

·      Bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout program spaces.

·      Participate in active games and recreational activities.

·      Lift and/or carry items weighing up to 25 pounds at times.

·      Maintain active supervision of children in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.

 

 

Job Title: Barista and Deli Assistant

Classification: Non-Manager, Part-Time

Reports To: Everyday Café Manager

Salary: $15/hr + Tips



Key Qualifications:

• Demonstrate the ability to be positive, energetic, and friendly with customers and staff

• Available to work flexible hours (may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays)

• Engage with customers, including anticipating, discovering, and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication

• Professional demeanor

• Ability to multitask

• Ability to learn quickly

• Ability to read and memorize food and drink recipes

• Ability to memorize and follow operating procedures

• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification as needed

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to work as part of a team

• Completion of ServSafe food service course and testing within 90 days of hire

• Prior customer service experience required

• Prior barista or food service experience required


Key Responsibilities Key responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge that promote the culture, values, and mission of Everyday Cafe

• Maintains regular and punctual attendance

• Maintains a calm demeanor during periods of high volume or unusual events to keep the café operating at a high’ standard and to set a positive example for the community

• Anticipates customer and store needs by constantly evaluating environment and customers for cues

• Communicates information to manager so that the team can respond as necessary to operational needs

• Delivers phenomenal customer service to all customers by having a positive attitude and delivering a great experience

• Follows Everyday Cafe’s operational policies and procedures

• Provides quality food and beverages consistently for all customers by adhering to all recipe and presentation standards

• Follows health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products

• Available to perform many different tasks within the café during each shift


Core Hours: The Café is currently open Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Your shift will be determined in conjunction with the Café Manager.


Physical Environment: Job will require walking, standing for 8-hour shifts, bending and may involve lifting up to 25 pounds.
